Apple Wallet driver’s licenses are now live in 16 states plus Puerto Rico, while Utah, Kentucky, and North Carolina remain among the next likely additions. The important distinction is that none of those three can be added to Apple Wallet today, and only North Carolina has published a current target window.
Apple’s current ID in Wallet page lists Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Virginia, and West Virginia, plus Puerto Rico. Oklahoma and Virginia are already live, not “coming soon,” after joining the list recently.
North Carolina’s DMV says its first mobile ID will launch in the separate NC Wallet app. Support for Apple, Google, and Samsung wallets is expected in 2027. Kentucky has launched its modernized KINDL licensing system, a prerequisite the state previously identified before third-party wallet support, but it has not posted a firm Apple Wallet launch date. Utah runs its own optional mobile license program and remains a long-announced Apple partner without a public launch date.

What “coming soon” means in each state
For North Carolina, it means a state app first and Apple Wallet integration later. For Kentucky and Utah, it means development or policy work continues, not that residents should expect an Add to Wallet button on a specific day. Apple originally named Kentucky and Utah among its early partners in 2021, showing how long state implementation can take.
Apple Wallet IDs can be presented at supported TSA checkpoints and participating businesses, apps, and venues. Acceptance is not universal, so residents should continue carrying the physical card. A passport-based Digital ID also has limits and cannot replace a passport for international travel.
Apple’s newer age-assurance system may separately ask users to confirm they are an adult. That process is not the same as a state-issued driver’s license in Wallet. Other Wallet changes in iOS 27 also do not expand the state list.
Apple and the issuing agencies will need to move each state onto the live list before residents can enroll. For now, North Carolina’s 2027 estimate is the clearest timing available, while Kentucky and Utah remain undated.
