Qualcomm has introduced Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, a platform designed to bring more on-device AI to earbuds, headphones, audio glasses and other wearables. The chip combines audio processing, voice technology, connectivity and AI features in one platform for manufacturers.
In its official announcement, Qualcomm says the platform delivers up to twice the AI capability of its predecessor and supports multiple intelligent experiences at the same time. Those figures are Qualcomm’s own comparisons, not independent testing.
The platform adds fifth-generation adaptive noise cancellation, updated voice-processing technology and support for advanced multi-microphone designs. Qualcomm is also promoting real-time translation, contextual assistance and personalized hearing as potential uses.

Built for more than wireless earbuds
Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 supports conventional earbuds and headphones, along with open-ear designs, audio glasses and camera-enabled wearables. Integrated low-power Wi-Fi 6E is intended to give devices another path to cloud-connected services without relying exclusively on Bluetooth.
Qualcomm also plans reference designs to help manufacturers prototype products. Cleer demonstrated an early wearable concept at Snapdragon Summit, but a demonstration does not guarantee a commercial device or establish retail pricing.
Apple uses its own chips and software across AirPods, so this is not an AirPods announcement. The platform matters because it may shape competing audio products and show which AI features other wearable makers prioritize next.
