Spotify’s biggest reason for dominance is the fact that it’s available on Android, while Apple Podcasts is not. Currently Android has 75% of the worldwide market while iOS has 24%.
The next big market for Spotify podcasts could be India, which is one of the fastest growing markets for podcasts.
