Apple acquires Severance IP for $70 million, moves production in-house, plans expansion, and prepares Season 3 under Apple Studios control.

This is a big milestone for a project that fans have been eager to see return to their screens.

Production starts after a long wait between previous seasons

It has been about eighteen months since the second season premiered, so viewers are used to waiting. The gap between the first two seasons stretched to three years because of various delays like script changes and industry strikes. Now, things are moving forward again.

To mark the start of filming, Ben Stiller shared a blurry behind-the-scenes picture. The image appears to show characters Mark S. and Helly R. running down the familiar hallways of Lumon. This visual connects directly to the tense final moments of the previous season.

Viewers might see new episodes premiere by late next year

With production officially underway, it will take quite a bit of time to get everything ready for the screen. Filming a project like this usually takes six to nine months. The post-production process then easily adds another half year to the timeline.

Because of this schedule, you probably will not see the show return to the Apple TV catalog until the fall of 2027. If it hits that target window, it will actually arrive slightly faster than the previous release cycle. You can always rewatch the story through the app or a set-top box like the Apple TV 2 while you wait.

The story left off with Mark choosing to stick with Helly instead of returning to his outside life. This bold choice sets the stage for a wild third season. Even though the wait is long, the cameras are rolling, and the mystery at Lumon is finally moving closer to a resolution.
