That discovery does not prove Matthew McConaughey is Clive’s son, but it turns Woody’s family search into something more threatening than a DNA mystery.

The Saddle Saloon lead becomes a trap
Woody begins investigating after Ma Mac retreats from the revelation she made while drinking. He visits the Saddle Saloon because it is connected to Clive’s past and leaves his details in case somebody remembers the woman his father was seeing. A later call appears to offer the answer he wants.
Instead, Woody is knocked unconscious and wakes tied to a chair. The Travis brothers are interested in money, not genealogy. Their demand shows that asking about Clive alerts people who have been waiting decades to settle unfinished business with the Harrelson family.
Ma Mac knows more about Clive than she admits
Ma Mac arrives with a shotgun and forces the men to release Woody. That is the episode’s strongest clue about her relationship with Clive. It does not establish that the two had a child together, but it makes her attempt to dismiss the earlier confession much less convincing.
The distinction matters because Brothers uses a real celebrity rumor inside a fictional story. No public DNA result has confirmed that McConaughey and Harrelson are biological half-brothers. Episode 2 advances the show’s invented mystery, not the real-world claim.
Woody’s secret could threaten Matthew’s campaign
Matthew is preparing a run for governor of Texas while Woody investigates privately. A disputed paternity story, criminal debts and Ma Mac’s concealment could all become campaign liabilities if Woody’s search becomes public.
The ending leaves Woody with evidence of danger rather than proof of brotherhood. The inflated debt also suggests that Clive’s old associates see Woody’s fame as leverage, which makes every future question riskier. Ma Mac can save him once, but her intervention cannot put the secret back where it was.
Woody now has to decide whether protecting Matthew means stopping or telling him before somebody else does.
