Jason, Daniela and Charlie have not been confirmed to enter a new reality in Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 4. The more defensible preview is that Episode 3 leaves them in the low-tech Chicago they had hoped would be safe, only for a new Box and a version of Leighton Vance to arrive at their apartment. That interruption is the question Episode 4 has to answer before the family can make another choice about where to go.
Apple has not published a detailed Episode 4 synopsis. The episode’s specific destination is therefore not known in advance. But the released setup establishes why the decision will be harder than another search for a pleasant world: the family’s refuge has already been found by someone with his own reason to use the Box.

The low-tech world has stopped feeling private
Episode 3 gives the Dessens a version of Chicago without computers, mobile phones or an internet. It initially looks like the closest thing they have found to a life beyond the reach of the multiverse. Jason tries to protect that peace by destroying the Box, while Daniela sees how much his fixation is beginning to resemble the ambition that caused their lives to fracture in the first place.

That solution fails. Ready Steady Cut’s Episode 3 recap describes the Box returning and Leighton appearing outside the family’s apartment. Whether he entered from another reality or has another connection to the restored machine, his arrival means the Dessens cannot treat this world as sealed off.
Leighton changes the family’s next calculation
The immediate issue is not simply choosing the next door. Jason, Daniela and Charlie must decide whether to leave before Leighton can turn their location into part of his wider plan. Apple’s season synopsis says Leighton relentlessly pursues a vision of a perfect world, while Jason’s deepening obsession with the Box strains his marriage. Those two motivations make the family’s safety problem personal as well as practical.
Daniela’s position matters most. She has already experienced the cost of following Jason into one risky solution after another. If the family moves again, the choice cannot be framed as Jason rescuing everyone with a technical fix. It has to be a joint decision about whether running still offers protection or merely creates another opening for people who know how to follow them.
The next reality is less important than the terms of leaving
Episode 4 may send the Dessens through another door, or it may keep them in the same Chicago long enough to show what Leighton wants. The official material does not settle that. What is clear is that the Box’s return has changed the family’s idea of control: removing one machine did not remove the wider system of people and choices surrounding it.
That makes “Hide Your Fires” a test of trust. Jason has to convince Daniela and Charlie that he is protecting them rather than chasing another impossible solution.
