Lozano’s disappearance moves the threat from the evidence room into the officers’ personal lives. María must now pursue a case that can reach colleagues and family, while the department faces growing proof that the killer can dictate its response.
What happens in Lozano?
Apple’s official synopsis says another detective goes missing while María’s night out with her daughter takes an unexpected turn. Published episode summaries identify the missing man as Plutarco and place his disappearance against his family’s preparations for Lulú’s quinceañera.
That domestic detail gives the case a personal cost. Plutarco is not treated as another name on an evidence board. His absence affects a family planning an important celebration, while his colleagues must consider whether the investigation has made members of the police direct targets.
Inside the precinct, the disappearance raises pressure on María and the Azules. The season began with the murder of a student activist and expanded into crimes connected to the 1968 student massacre. By Episode 5, the threat has crossed into the department itself.
Why María’s two worlds are colliding
María entered Season 2 as a lieutenant, placing her between the institution’s rules and her determination to follow evidence wherever it leads. Her evening with her daughter should offer distance from the case. Instead, Apple’s synopsis signals that her family life is no longer separate from the danger surrounding the investigation.
The episode’s most important shift is therefore not a single answer about the killer. It is the loss of safety. Detectives can disappear, family plans can be interrupted and María cannot leave the consequences of her work at the station door.
Published reviews describe the chapter as an escalation rather than a complete solution. That fits the season’s position. Episode 5 leaves three installments for the Azules to connect the present killings, the department’s corruption and the buried history driving the case.
What the episode leaves unanswered
Apple has not published a detailed ending summary explaining every event around Plutarco’s disappearance. It has also not confirmed the full identity, motive or next target of the person behind the season’s killings.
What Episode 5 makes clear is that the investigation has become personal for the department and for María. The Azules now need to solve the case while working inside an institution increasingly affected by fear. Episode 6 is scheduled to continue the story on September 16.
