Dark Matter Season 2 brings its central ensemble back together, but the characters are no longer following the same path through the multiverse. Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly again lead the Apple TV thriller as Jason and Daniela Dessen, while Alice Braga and Jimmi Simpson continue Amanda and Ryan’s separate journey.
Apple has confirmed seven returning actors for the 10-episode season. The guide below sticks to the character names and story positions Apple has published, without assigning unannounced roles to performers seen in episode images.

Who plays the Dessen family?
Jason Dessen — Joel Edgerton
Jason is a physicist, professor and family man whose abduction into an alternate version of his life began the series. Season 2 finds him back with his family, but Apple says his growing fixation on the Box threatens their fragile stability. Edgerton is also an executive producer.
Daniela Dessen — Jennifer Connelly
Daniela is Jason’s wife. Apple’s Season 2 description says her growing paranoia pushes her toward the brink as the family tries to settle into a reality that finally appears safe. Connelly also serves as an executive producer.
Charlie — Oakes Fegley
Charlie is Jason and Daniela’s son. Apple says he wants stability after the family’s experience with the Box, placing him between his father’s obsession and his mother’s fear.
Amanda, Ryan, Leighton and Blair
Amanda Lucas — Alice Braga
Amanda helped Jason navigate the Box and its alternate worlds. In Season 2, she joins forces with Ryan in an attempt to find a way home.
Ryan Holder — Jimmi Simpson
Ryan is a scientist whose work became entangled with the Box. Apple places him alongside Amanda in the new season, giving the pair a shared objective even though their route home remains uncertain.
Leighton Vance — Dayo Okeniyi
Leighton continues pursuing what Apple calls his grand vision of a perfect world.
Blair — Amanda Brugel
Blair is determined to stop Leighton. Apple has not published a fuller explanation of their conflict.
Who else is confirmed for Season 2?
Apple’s official Season 2 announcement identifies Edgerton, Connelly, Braga, Simpson, Okeniyi, Fegley and Brugel as the returning ensemble. The company has shown other performers in episode photography, but it has not attached complete character biographies to every image. Those appearances should not be treated as new main-cast announcements without further confirmation.
Blake Crouch remains the creator, showrunner and a writer. He and executive producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry co-wrote every Season 2 episode. The confirmed cast structure keeps the story divided among the Dessen family, Amanda and Ryan’s search, and the conflict between Leighton and Blair.
