Filmmaker Dave Boyle is officially on board to direct a brand new remake of the Japanese horror classic Pulse. The new project comes from Sony’s Screen Gems and Spyglass, who are teaming up to bring the chilling story back to theaters. Boyle is taking the job following the buzz around his upcoming movie Never After Dark to guide this fresh take on the classic horror story.
The new version updates early internet scares for today
Kiyoshi Kurosawa directed the original film back in 2001. That movie scared viewers by showing spirits sneaking into our world through the early days of the internet. The new version will leave behind those old tech fears and place the story right in the modern era. While the studios are keeping the setting and plot a secret for now, they confirmed the film will feature a totally new group of characters dealing with the threat.
Luke Piotrowski, who worked on Hellraiser, wrote the first draft of the script. Now, Boyle is stepping in to do his own rewrite of the story before cameras start rolling.

Studios bring top-tier horror talent on board for the film
Sony’s Screen Gems and Spyglass are working with a production company called Bad Feeling to put the movie together. Parker Finn and Jonathan Fass are producing the project. They bring a lot of experience to the table, having worked on the popular Smile movies and an upcoming remake of Possession.
Boyle is a top-tier pick to lead this film. He has spent a lot of time telling stories set in Japan or focused on Japanese characters. His latest horror film, Never After Dark, has already earned high praise from famous writers like Stephen King.
