Spoilers for Golden Axe Season 1 follow. Hampton Squib is a giant, or more precisely a “very small giant,” according to the giant who explains why the Emerald Blade chose him. The finale reveals that he carries giant blood despite believing he is human.
The twist explains Hampton’s otherwise unlikely connection to the Emerald Blade, but it is not merely a punchline. It recasts the novice adventurer as someone tied directly to the force Death Adder has been trying to control.

The Emerald Blade makes the reveal possible
Hampton begins the season with little conventional heroic skill. Paramount+’s official setup calls him inexperienced and wildly underprepared, so the weapon’s response to him is a genuine surprise. The finale resolves that puzzle by linking the blade to the giant blood Hampton did not know he had.

That does not mean he is suddenly more capable than Ax, Tyris or Gilius in every respect. The blade recognizes an ancestry, while Hampton’s defining contribution remains his ability to see an unconventional solution when the experienced warriors are locked into a direct fight.
His heritage helps break Death Adder’s control
Hampton uses the moment to separate the Emerald Blade from the Golden Axe. Without the combined weapons, Death Adder loses control of the giants and the battle turns. His lineage gives the reveal its fantasy logic, but the actual choice is Hampton’s: he sees that the weapons can be pulled apart.
The distinction keeps the twist from reducing him to a destiny device. Hampton is chosen by the blade, yet he still has to decide what to do with the opening it provides. His role in the victory comes from both the revelation and the judgment he shows after it.
Gilius’ part in that choice is important as well. He trusts Hampton at the decisive moment by throwing him toward the weapons, even after a season of treating him as a liability. Their partnership changes because Gilius finally sees that experience is not the same as certainty.
The series leaves the giant question open
The finale confirms the bloodline but does not fully explain it. It does not establish Hampton’s parents, whether he can communicate with giants, or what the heritage will demand from him next. His decision to spare the giants instead creates a fresh danger for Yuria.
