Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie Season 2: Cast, Story, Release Date and More

Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie Season 2: Cast, Story, Release Date and More

Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie is officially returning for Season 2, and production has now wrapped. The streamer renewed the series before Season 1 premiered in July 2026, and the new season will move the Ingalls family into Walnut Grove while introducing several familiar characters from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books.

Netflix has not announced a Season 2 release date yet. However, with filming complete as of October 2026, the series has moved into post-production, making a 2027 return the most realistic expectation. Netflix has not confirmed that window, so an exact date remains unknown.

Story inspirationOn the Banks of Plum Creek

Season 2 will draw from On the Banks of Plum Creek, the fourth novel in Wilder’s Little House series. The story continues roughly 18 months after the events of Season 1 and follows the Ingalls family as they settle into life around Walnut Grove.

Nellie Oleson joins the story

One of the biggest additions is Nellie Oleson, Laura’s well-known rival from the books and earlier television adaptation.

Willa Dunn will play Nellie, while Charlotte Sullivan joins as her mother, Margaret Oleson. Rachelle Lefevre will play schoolteacher Eva Beadle, who becomes an important figure for Laura and Mary.

Several core Season 1 actors are expected back, including:

  • Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls
  • Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls
  • Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls
  • Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls
  • Warren Christie in the returning ensemble

Netflix has also confirmed additional new actors for Walnut Grove as Season 2 expands the community around the Ingalls family.

What will Season 2 be about?

Season 1 followed the family’s journey west and their struggle to build a new life. Season 2 shifts the story toward a more established community, allowing the series to spend more time on school, friendships, rivalries, local families, and Charles Ingalls’ development.

Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine has said the adaptation continues drawing from Wilder’s novels while giving each season its own perspective and character development. Netflix describes the series as a mix of family drama, survival story, and frontier history.

With filming now finished, the next major update should be a first-look image, teaser, or release window. Until Netflix announces one, there is no confirmed Little House on the Prairie Season 2 premiere date.
