Lanterns has not been officially renewed for Season 2. HBO ordered the show as an eight-episode series, and the fallout from Episode 5 gives Hal Jordan and John Stewart plenty to resolve before any second-season speculation needs to become a renewal claim.
Episode 5 changes their partnership after John kills Zoe Macon during the Manhunter crisis. That is a major story development, but an unresolved ending is not the same thing as an order for more episodes. HBO or Warner Bros. Discovery would need to announce Season 2 before a release date, production plan or returning cast can be treated as confirmed.

After Zoe is exposed as the Manhunter in Episode 4, John cannot treat the case as impersonal. His decision in Episode 5 ends the immediate confrontation but adds emotional and professional consequences. The first season still has room to answer those questions
The official eight-episode order is important. At the Episode 5 stage, the series still has episodes in which to address the effect of Zoe’s death, the Manhunter threat and the tension around the Guardians. A character’s future can remain unsettled because the current season is still telling its story.
That is also why it is too early to turn every open question into a Season 2 setup. The Episode 4 reveal expanded the mystery, but it did not come with a renewal notice. The story and the business decision must be kept separate.
What a real renewal announcement would establish
An HBO or Warner Bros. Discovery announcement could confirm that another season is ordered and possibly identify its episode count, producers or returning stars. It would not necessarily reveal the plot. Until one appears, claims about a Season 2 release window or exact next story are unsupported.
What the next episode still needs to answer
