Amazon is shaking up its streaming lineup by introducing a brand new subscription tier for its viewers across the United States. The company just announced Prime Video Ultra, a fresh option that promises much better video quality and a few exclusive features. However, these highly requested upgrades come with a noticeable price hike.
If you want the absolute best viewing experience on your television set, you must pay more each month.

The new tier paywalls 4K resolution and spatial audio formats
Prime Video Ultra focuses heavily on making your favorite movies and television shows look and sound much better. The newly launched plan is now the only way to get true 4K Ultra HD resolution and Dolby Atmos spatial audio on the platform.
It also upgrades your general account limits. The premium tier allows up to five people to stream content at the exact same time. It also lets you save up to one hundred titles directly to your device for offline viewing.
Amazon controversially pulled 4K and Atmos from its standard plan. Now, the company essentially forces you to upgrade to the Ultra tier if you want to use your expensive home theater setup to its full potential. However, the base subscription does still support standard high definition, standard HDR, and Dolby Vision without requiring the extra monthly fee.
You must pay five dollars extra every month for these upgrades
Getting access to these enhanced viewing options will absolutely cost you extra money. Amazon officially set the price for Prime Video Ultra at $4.99 per month.
This is a noticeable jump from the basic service. Your total monthly streaming bill increases significantly, as this $4.99 fee stacks directly on top of your existing $14.99 regular Prime membership. This makes it quite an expensive overall package for the average household.
If you want to save a little cash, Amazon also offers a yearly Ultra subscription for $45.99. You can comfortably stay on your current basic plan if you do not care about the higher video quality or sitting through commercials.
However, serious movie fans will likely feel pressured to spend the extra cash to keep their movies looking sharp.
