Apple Music is officially changing its look, and the company took a very creative approach to get there. After weeks of hints inside software testing, the streaming service showed off its new logo and overall design. Instead of just drawing something on a computer screen, the design team built the fresh visual identity using physical liquid and actual music to shape the final artwork.
The updated app look arrives next week for smartphone users
To create the new visuals, the company worked closely with British producer Fred again and NEST Acoustics. They placed a speaker under a shallow bath of mineral oil and played a custom music track. The sound waves created ripples in the liquid, which cameras captured to form the base of the new design.
This hands-on method mirrors how Apple recently rebranded its video platform. The Apple TV team used real glass and practical lighting to create their updated logo last year.

When the new software update drops next week, subscribers will notice a few major changes to the app interface. Here are the main updates you will see:
- A black and white home screen icon replaces the old red design.
- The main navigation tab turns blue when selected.
- The brand name uses a thicker, rounded font style.
While losing the familiar red icon might take some getting used to, the physical creative process behind the change gives the platform a unique story. The updated interface rolls out to all supported devices in the coming days, bringing a more restrained style to your daily listening habits.
