Apple has released new beta firmware for AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4. The update carries build number 8B5034f and is currently limited to developers. If you run the developer beta, your AirPods may install the update automatically in the background.
The new beta arrives even though Apple is not testing a new iOS version at this time. That makes the changes inside this firmware unclear. Still, beta builds often prepare devices for upcoming software updates across the ecosystem.

According to Apple, developers can enable beta firmware downloads directly from the AirPods settings interface. This option appears when the AirPods connect to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac running the latest beta software.
How the AirPods Beta Update Works
With iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe, Apple added a dedicated beta installation option inside Settings. Once enabled, the AirPods download and install new beta firmware automatically.
Here are the eligible models:
- AirPods Pro 3
- AirPods Pro 2
- AirPods 4
In the latest public release, AirPods Pro 3 run build 8B34, AirPods Pro 2 run 8B28, and AirPods 4 use 8B21. As always, you cannot manually trigger firmware installation. Prepare your AirPods for updates, and the system handles the rest.
For me, the beta firmware option disappeared with the last iOS release. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps (in developer mode, reset the AirPods Pro 3, restarted phone, etc. and nothing. No beta option available. Anyone else having this issue?
