This steady growth helped the company capture a solid 20 percent share of the entire global smartphone market, placing it right behind Samsung.
The brand sees massive success with its latest device lineup
The fresh sales numbers heavily reflect the popularity of the iPhone 17 family. According to research firm Omdia, this newest generation of phones served as the main engine for the company.
The recently released 17e model did exceptionally well with network carriers in places like Japan and the European Union. Shoppers quickly grabbed the cheaper model as an easy, affordable upgrade path.
Meanwhile, the more expensive iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max easily beat the launch records set by previous generations. These premium devices saw massive demand in mainland China, where sales actually jumped by 42 percent compared to last year as buyers rushed to grab the best cameras available.
Market experts worry about slowing sales later in the year
Despite the good news for the iPhone maker, the broader tech industry still faces big challenges. The global smartphone market only grew by a tiny 1 percent overall during the first three months of the year, reaching just 298.5 million units shipped worldwide.
Analysts believe that many phone brands rushed to ship boxes to stores early. They did this to avoid paying higher costs for memory chips and other internal parts down the road.
Because regular shoppers are still dealing with tight budgets and everyday inflation, they are just not buying as many new electronics right now. Experts expect this gap between full store shelves and slow customer spending to cause a noticeable drop in phone sales during the second half of the year.
