Apple TV Reveals a New Comedic Horror Series Starring Matthew Rhys

Apple TV has shared an early look at Widow’s Bay, a new comedic horror series starring Matthew Rhys. You can expect mystery, uneasy humor, and a slow-burn story set far from the mainland. Apple confirmed the show will debut in spring 2026 and open with a multi-episode premiere.

When Widow’s Bay premieres on Apple TV

Apple TV says Widow’s Bay will launch worldwide on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. You will get the first three episodes on day one. New episodes will then arrive every Wednesday through June 17. The season includes ten episodes in total, giving you a steady weekly rollout.

What the series is about

Apple describes Widow’s Bay as a quiet island town located 40 miles off the New England coast. Something feels off beneath the calm surface.

According to Apple, “Widow’s Bay is a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface.”

Matthew Rhys plays Tom Loftis, the town’s mayor. He wants to save his struggling community and earn respect from locals who see him as weak. The island lacks reliable cell service, has no Wi Fi, and runs on superstition. Loftis pushes forward anyway, hoping to secure a better future for his teenage son.

Apple adds, “Miraculously, he succeeds. Tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right.”

Old stories return. Strange events follow. The show mixes real horror with character-driven comedy as the town faces what it tried to ignore.

Cast and creative team

Matthew Rhys also serves as an executive producer. Katie Dippold created and runs the series. Hiro Murai directs five episodes and executive produces through Chum Films.

The cast includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey.

Comedic horror rarely works without the right balance. With this team, you can see why Apple feels confident. More details remain under wraps, but Widow’s Bay already looks like one of Apple TV’s most intriguing new releases for 2026.
