Apple TV’s new culinary docuseries “Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook” premieres globally on Friday, November 6, 2026. Apple says the eight-episode series follows Nora Lum, aka Awkwafina, on a cross-country road trip as she tries to revive her family’s beloved Chinese restaurant.

Apple released the trailer on October 1, 2026. The catch, and the hook of the show, is that the actor and comedian never learned to cook.
When does Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook come out?
Apple lists the premiere for November 6, 2026 on Apple TV. Apple TV typically releases new episodes at 9pm ET / 6pm PT the evening before the listed date, so US viewers may be able to watch on the evening of November 5. Apple has not confirmed a release time.

Apple’s announcement gives the episode count as eight. It does not say whether all eight arrive on November 6 or roll out weekly, and Apple has not posted episode titles or a release calendar yet. We will update this post once that information appears in Apple’s episode guide.
What the show is about
According to Apple, Awkwafina’s family ran Lum’s, which it calls “the iconic Cantonese restaurant in Flushing, New York.” Nora inherited the family legacy. The cooking skills, in Apple’s words, “still need work.”
Apple quotes Nora putting it plainly: “I can’t cook. Like, at all.”
Apple says that with help from acclaimed chefs, celebrated restaurateurs and her family, she sets out to build her kitchen skills, explore contemporary Asian American cuisine and “reimagine Lum’s legacy for a new generation.”
Where the road trip goes
Apple’s announcement outlines the main stops and guests across the season.
- A crash course at the Culinary Institute of America
- A Texas barbecue trip with Jimmy O. Yang
- Lessons from culinary icons Roy Choi and Martin Yan
- A visit to Hawai’i to explore the tiki culture that inspired her grandma’s restaurant
- Serving at a restaurant in Los Angeles’ Chinatown
Apple says it all builds toward “one high-stakes opening night” and the toughest VIP diner of all: her grandma.
That is the full list Apple has shared. It has not said which episode covers which stop, so treat the order above as the order in Apple’s announcement, not a confirmed episode lineup.
Who makes it
| Role | Name |
|---|---|
| Production company | Twofour |
| Executive producers | Nora Lum, David Brindley, Itay Reiss, Caroline Davies |
| Episodes | 8 |
| Premiere | November 6, 2026 |
The series is produced for Apple TV by Twofour. Apple notes this is the second collaboration between Twofour and Apple TV, following the Emmy Award-nominated travel series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy,” which stars Emmy Award winner Eugene Levy.
That pedigree is worth noting. “The Reluctant Traveler” built its appeal on a famous face doing something outside their comfort zone, and Apple’s description of “The Unlikely Cook” follows a similar idea, with a kitchen in place of a passport. Our first report on The Reluctant Traveler covers how that show started.
How to watch
“Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook” will stream only on Apple TV. Apple lists the service at $14.99 per month with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers.
Apple also says that for a limited time, customers who purchase and activate a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K or Mac can get three months of Apple TV for free. The offer is good for three months after the first activation of the eligible device, with one offer per Family Sharing group, and plans renew automatically until cancelled.
The Apple TV app is available in over 100 countries and regions. Beyond Apple’s own devices, Apple lists smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO and TCL, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and tv.apple.com in a browser.
