Apple’s own camera page for iPhone Duo describes an integrated optical-quality 2x telephoto built into the 48MP main camera. That is not the same thing as a dedicated telephoto lens, and the difference is worth spelling out precisely, because “the Duo has no telephoto” is one of the most repeated claims about the phone.
Here is what Apple actually publishes about iPhone Duo’s cameras, lens by lens.

What the rear cameras actually are
iPhone Duo has two rear lenses: a 48MP Fusion Main camera at 26 mm with an f/1.6 aperture and sensor-shift optical image stabilization, and a 48MP Ultra Wide at 13 mm, f/2.2, with a 120-degree field of view that Apple says matches the Ultra Wide on iPhone 18 Pro.

The 2x telephoto sits inside that same Main camera. Apple’s tech specs list it as a 12MP, 52 mm crop at f/1.6, the same aperture as the Main lens, because it is the Main sensor cropped in rather than a separate optical path. Apple states iPhone Duo’s zoom range as 0.5x, 1x and 2x optical, a 4x optical zoom range overall, and up to 10x digital.
Why “integrated” is the operative word
Apple’s marketing language calls this an integrated optical-quality 2x telephoto, and the wording matters. iPhone 18 Pro carries a genuinely separate telephoto lens, a tetraprism design at 100 mm with its own f/2.8 aperture and 3D sensor-shift stabilization. iPhone Duo has no equivalent third rear lens.
The shorthand version of the claim, that there is no telephoto capability at all, does not hold up against Apple’s own page, which explicitly names a 2x telephoto function. What is accurate is that it is not built from its own dedicated glass.
What the front cameras cover
iPhone Duo has two separate front cameras. The outer display carries a 12MP Center Stage camera at f/2.2 with Retina Flash, built for video calls and selfies when the phone is closed. The inner, under-display camera is f/1.8, capped at 1080p, and exists for FaceTime when the phone is open. Neither is described by Apple as a biometric sensor.
The camera features unique to the fold
Apple lists several camera features it says are exclusive to iPhone Duo: Smart Take, which it describes as on-device detection of the moment everyone in frame is posed before it captures a photo; Duo Preview, a live view of the shot shown on the outer display for the person being photographed; Kid Cue, animations on the outer display meant to hold a child’s attention; and Duo FaceTime, which lets a nearby friend join a call from the outer display.
None of those features involve the 2x telephoto directly. Editing tools Apple lists alongside them, Photographic Styles with tone, color, texture and grain controls, Spatial Reframing, an Extend tool and an enhanced Clean Up tool, apply across all of iPhone Duo’s cameras rather than to any one lens.

What Apple has not said
Apple has not published sample images at full resolution for either front camera, macro-specific figures beyond listing a 48MP macro capability on the Ultra Wide, or whether ProRes or Log recording extend to iPhone Duo the way they do on iPhone 18 Pro. A digital zoom ceiling above 10x, if one exists, is also unpublished.
