If you use Google‘s web browser on your computer in the United Kingdom, you might notice a new sparkle icon in the top right corner. The company is now rolling out its integrated AI assistant to desktop users in the region. This update adds a dedicated button that opens a side panel, allowing you to summarize articles, compare information across different tabs, and create images without opening a new window.
The assistant connects with other apps to speed up daily tasks
The new Gemini assistant is built directly into Chrome. It can look at multiple open tabs at once to help you compare products or summarize research. The tool also links with other services like Calendar, YouTube, Gmail, and Maps. This means you can ask the sidebar to draft an email, schedule a meeting, or find a specific part of a video while you stay on your current webpage.
Another addition is Nano Banana, a built-in image generator. You can type a text prompt into the sidebar to create custom graphics right inside the browser. While these tools are currently available for PC and Mac users, the company plans to release them for iOS devices in the UK next month. These features were originally restricted to paid subscribers before launching in the United States last September.
If you prefer to keep your browser simple, you do not have to keep the new button. You can just right-click the sparkle icon and select the unpin option to hide it from your view completely.
