Siri AI usage limits on HomeView: what happens when you hit the daily cap

Siri AI answering a general knowledge question on Apple HomeView

Siri AI is the headline feature of Apple’s $299 HomeView, which ships on November 13, and the fine print under it says the assistant comes with daily usage limits. Apple’s HomeView product page, tech specs page and HomeView press release all carry the same footnote, and two Apple support documents published on September 9, 2026 explain what happens when you reach a limit.

Here is what Apple has written down, quoted directly. For the product itself, see our HomeView price and release date story.

The HomeView footnote

The footnote attached to Siri AI on HomeView reads: “Siri AI is available in beta in HomeView software version 27.2.” It continues: “Certain Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models are subject to daily usage limits. Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future. Use of these features is subject to the Apple Intelligence Terms and Conditions.”

On the HomeView overview page, the shorter version sits right under the Siri AI section: “Available in English to start. Usage limits may apply.”

The key words are “server-side models.” Apple says in the press release that “Siri requests on HomeView can use on-device processing or Private Cloud Compute, which extends the privacy of the device to the cloud.” The footnote ties the daily limits to features that rely on server-side models.

What happens when you reach a limit

Apple’s support document Learn about Apple Intelligence usage limits is the clearest answer. It says: “If you reach a limit in a particular feature, that feature will become available again after a time out period.”

The same document adds: “Limits may vary by feature, request complexity, system demand, system policies, and other factors. Increased access to such features will be available for a fee.”

The Apple Intelligence Usage Terms, the page HomeView’s footnote links to, describe the same moment in legal language: “If you reach a limit for a particular Apple Intelligence Feature, that feature may become unavailable or the functionality of such feature may be limited until the applicable usage limit resets. You may continue using other features on your device in the meantime.”

In practice, that means:

  • The limit is per feature. Reaching it in one Apple Intelligence feature does not switch off the others.
  • The feature may stop working or may work in a reduced form until the limit resets.
  • The rest of HomeView keeps working while you wait.
  • More access will be sold for a fee. Apple says expanded access “will be available for a fee in the future.”

Apple’s documents do not give a number for the daily cap or say whether it counts per person or per HomeView.

Which features Apple lists

The usage limits document names the features that rely on server-side models. Apple says these “include but aren’t limited to”:

  • Siri AI
  • Intelligent Photo Editing Tools including Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframing
  • Image Playground
  • AFM 3 Cloud and AFM 3 Cloud Pro Models in Shortcuts
  • Developer apps using Apple Foundation Models in Private Cloud Compute

The document also says: “In the future, Apple will implement usage limits on these and other Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features to ensure a high-quality, reliable experience for everyone.”

The camera limit is a different kind of cap

HomeView’s Home Camera face can livestream up to nine video feeds at once, and Apple Intelligence in the Home app can summarize camera recordings. That feature has a separate limit based on your iCloud+ plan rather than a daily count. The usage limits document says video summaries are available “up to 1 camera in the 2 TB plan, up to 2 cameras in the 6 TB plan, and up to 5 cameras in the 12 TB plan.”

6 TBUp to 2
12 TBUp to 5

Apple adds that “Supported camera counts and other iCloud+ plan features may change over time.” The HomeView press release notes that video summaries and natural language search “require setup using an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, and a subscription to an eligible iCloud+ plan.”

Unreasonable use and age limits

The Usage Terms go further than the daily cap. Section 2, Unreasonable Use, says: “Excessive, abusive, automated, fraudulent, illegal or otherwise unreasonable use, including use that materially impacts service availability or other users, may be restricted, throttled, suspended, or subject to additional limits.”

Apple says it may judge unreasonable use “based on factors including usage volume, frequency, request complexity, system demand, and patterns of use.”

Section 5, Age Restrictions, is short: “Certain Apple Intelligence Features may be subject to age restrictions. Such age restrictions may vary by region. Apple reserves the right to modify age restrictions at any time.” That matters on a device built for a whole family, since HomeView recognizes up to six people by face and gives each one a personalized experience.

What still works without a paired iPhone

Apple says that with Siri AI built into HomeView, “even users without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad will benefit from Siri AI’s broad world knowledge; ability to have rich, natural conversations; and improved music discovery.”

Personal requests are different. The footnote says: “Personal context requests require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software version with Siri AI turned on and set to a supported language.”

What to take away

Siri AI on HomeView is not unlimited. A heavy day of requests could pause a feature until it resets, and Apple plans to charge for more. Apple can change the limits at any time, so the usage limits page is the one to watch.
