Apple has introduced selfie-based age verification with iOS 27.2, allowing iPhone users in supported regions to confirm they are adults without submitting a government-issued ID or credit card.
The feature uses facial age estimation to verify whether someone is at least 18 years old. According to Apple’s support documentation, users may encounter verification when creating an Apple Account, downloading age-restricted apps, updating software, or changing certain safety settings.
How Selfie-Based Age Verification Works
When prompted to confirm their age, eligible users can complete verification through a guided process:

Set us as a preferred source and our Apple reporting ranks higher in your Google Search results and Discover feed — one tap, no account changes.
- Select Take a Selfie and tap Get Started.
- Position your face within the camera frame.
- Slowly move your head right, left, up, and down to capture four angles.
- Allow Apple’s age-estimation system to process the images.
Apple combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute, ensuring the images remain inaccessible even to Apple. The company says it deletes the selfie after successful verification.
Availability and Privacy
The feature requires iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2 and currently supports these regions:
| Region | Selfie verification |
|---|---|
| Australia | Available |
| Brazil | Available |
| Singapore | Available |
| United Kingdom | Available |
| South Korea | Unavailable |
| Texas, US | Unavailable |
Apple confirms these restrictions in its regional age-verification guidelines.
Users can also check their verification status under Settings > Apple Account > Personal Information > Age Confirmation.
The addition expands Apple’s existing age-verification options while offering eligible adults a quicker way to access restricted apps and account features.
