The iPhone 18 Pro Max costs exactly $100 more than the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro at all four storage tiers, and Apple’s store pages show the same flat pattern in every one of the ten countries we have prices for. What that gap is worth changes with the market: it is 7.8 percent of the entry price in the UAE and 10.5 percent in Singapore.
The premium is worth reading closely because Apple’s own spec sheet separates the two phones on only a handful of lines: display size and resolution, the battery ratings, dimensions and weight, and price. The chip, the three rear cameras, the video formats, the charging claims, the connectivity, the materials, the four colors and all four storage tiers are listed as identical, so the money buys size and runtime and nothing else on the page.

The prices are Apple’s own store listings. The percentages are arithmetic on them, and nothing here converts one currency into another, because a conversion answers a different question from the one a buyer standing in one store is asking.

The gap never moves inside a country
Storage is the other axis of the decision, and the size premium does not track it. Apple charges the same flat amount for the bigger phone whether you buy the cheapest configuration or the most expensive, which means the premium shrinks steadily as a share of the bill.

The same shape holds in the UK, where every tier is £100 apart, and in India, where every tier is ₹15,000 apart. A 2TB buyer in the US pays 4.2 percent more for the bigger phone. A 256GB buyer pays double that share for the identical difference in hardware.
One caveat on the US figures
Apple’s US store lists the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199 with carrier connectivity and $1,299 unlocked, and the Pro Max at $1,299 and $1,399 on the same basis. Apple never prints that delta as a line item, and the $100 size premium holds on either basis. Our breakdown of the $1,199 price and the monthly option sets out what each route commits you to.
Apple’s press release quotes the two phones at $49.95 and $54.12 a month over 24 months, a difference of $4.17. In the UK the store shows £39.96 against £43.30 a month over 30 months at 0 percent APR, and India shows EMI from ₹26,316 against ₹28,817.
What the premium does not buy
- Any camera difference. Both models list the 48MP Fusion Main with the four aperture stops, the 48MP Ultra Wide and the 48MP 4x Telephoto.
- Any chip difference. The A20 Pro specification is identical on both, as our A20 Pro explainer covers.
- Faster charging. Both are rated for up to 50 percent in around 15 minutes with a 60W adapter, and MagSafe and Qi2 both top out at 25W.
- A higher storage ceiling. Both reach 2TB, where last year’s 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro stopped at 1TB and only the Pro Max offered 2TB.
- Extra colors. Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy are listed for both sizes.
What it does buy is a 6.9-inch display instead of 6.3 inches, 45 hours of rated video playback instead of 36, and 249 g instead of 211 g. Our size-by-size comparison and the 45-hour battery claim explained go through both.
What has not been confirmed
- Whether the US carrier-connectivity discount applies at the 512GB, 1TB and 2TB tiers, or only at 256GB. Apple publishes no footnote spelling it out.
- Prices in the markets outside these ten, including the 20 countries joining on September 25, whose list Apple has not published.
- Per-device AppleCare+ prices for either model. The rows exist on Apple’s support pages with the price cells empty.
- Per-model trade-in values. Apple publishes only a range of $175 to $885, and carriers advertise up to $1,200 without naming a device.
- Anything about stock, demand or which size ships first. Apple publishes no inventory data at any point.
Pre-orders for both sizes open at 5 a.m. PT on Saturday, September 12, which is 12:00 UTC, 1:00 pm BST and 5:30 pm IST, and the phones reach stores on Friday, September 18 in more than 65 countries, with 20 more following on September 25. The storage tier you pick is permanent, and the $100 is the smallest of the sums in front of you.
