The iPhone Duo includes an unusual display setting that can make its outer screen easier to use with protective cases. Called Shift Left Edge, the option adds a wider black border on the left and moves interface content away from the folding side of the phone.
Nicolas Lellouche found the control while examining an iPhone Duo hands-on unit and demonstrated it in an original post on X. His video shows the setting inside the display menu, along with a short explanation of when it should be used.
How the iPhone Duo bezel option works
The setting “moves content when you are using a case that partially covers the left edge of the outer display of your iPhone.”
- It creates a larger black margin along the outer display’s left side.
- Text, icons, and controls move inward instead of sitting beneath a case lip.
- The change is software-based and can be disabled when the extra space is unnecessary.
The feature does not add a physical bezel or change the panel. It gives up a narrow portion of usable screen space so content remains visible and easier to touch. That tradeoff could be useful with rugged third-party cases, particularly around the hinge where a raised protective edge may extend farther over the display.

Apple’s technical specifications list a 5.4-inch outer OLED display with a 1398-by-2034 resolution. The company does not currently document Shift Left Edge on that page, so the control seen on the hands-on unit could still change before launch.
Apple sells its own $79 two-part iPhone Duo Case, which wraps around both sides of the device. It is not clear whether Apple’s case needs the bezel setting. The option may be intended mainly for thicker accessories, but Apple has not published a compatibility list. Shift Left Edge is a small feature, but it shows how foldable hardware can create interface problems that normal iPhones do not face.
