Nobody outside Apple has used an iPhone Duo, so every number attached to Apple’s first foldable is Apple’s own. That does not make the numbers useless, but it does mean a buyer has to sort them, because some are measurements anyone can confirm on October 23 and some are claims with no published test behind them.
Three groups come out of Apple’s product page and tech specs: figures that are simply facts about the object, comparisons against a named target with no conditions given, and qualities that only months of use will settle. The third group is where a first-generation purchase actually carries risk.

Those are checkable. If you hold one on launch day, or read its box, the figures either match or they do not. They are also the figures that decide whether the phone fits your pocket and your hand, which is the thing a specification sheet is genuinely good for.

Each of those is a real published claim with a named comparison, which is more than many phone makers offer. None of them is a test result you can reproduce. The three questions only time answers
- How the hinge ages. Apple publishes Grade 5 titanium, a 3D-printed recycled titanium cover and more than 100 components with custom adhesives for flex relief, and no fold-cycle rating at all.
- How visible the crease becomes. Apple credits the nano-texture finish and optically clear adhesives with minimising it and publishes no measurement of it, before or after use.
- How third-party apps behave folded and unfolded. Split View, the posable layouts and the reimagined StandBy are Apple’s own software, and the Xcode 27.1 beta developers need for the Duo is listed as coming later this month.
Add a fourth practical unknown: the Duo ships on iOS 27.1 rather than the iOS 27 that reaches other iPhones on September 14, and Apple has not dated or described that release.
How to read Apple’s Duo numbers before October 23
- Separate the object from the performance. Weight, size, resolution and price are settled. Speed, battery and durability are claims.
- Always carry the comparison target with the number. Twenty percent faster than an A19 Pro is a different statement from twenty percent faster than the phone in your pocket.
- Treat an hour rating as a rating. Apple’s 24, 44 and 31 hour figures come from Apple’s testing, not from anyone’s week with the phone.
- Where Apple has published nothing, read nothing into it. There is no fold-cycle rating, so there is no fold-cycle expectation, favourable or otherwise.
- Use the shared parts. Much of the Duo is the hardware going on sale on September 18 in the Pro, so our Duo against iPhone 18 Pro Max comparison is the closest thing to a preview that exists.
What has not been confirmed
Apple has published no fold-cycle rating, no crease measurement, no battery capacity, no memory figure, no repair price and no per-device AppleCare+ price. It has published no benchmark, no test conditions for any performance or battery claim, and no independent review exists because the phone is not in anyone’s hands. iOS 27 arrives Monday, September 14. iPhone Duo pre-orders open Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. PT and the phone ships Friday, October 23, which is the first day anyone outside Apple can check a single one of these numbers.
