Apple gave the iPhone Duo a $1,999 starting price in the United States, keeping its first foldable just below a major psychological threshold. Mark Gurman reports that Apple is charging more in some overseas markets partly to protect that sub-$2,000 US headline.
Official Apple pages show how striking the regional prices can look. The 256GB model starts at £1,999 in the United Kingdom, ₹299,900 in India, and ¥364,800 in Japan. These figures should not be treated as direct currency conversions because taxes, duties, exchange rates, and local costs differ, but they make the Duo’s premium position clear. The headline gap is especially visible in India, where the starting figure crosses the ₹299,000 mark before a buyer adds accessories or chooses more storage. Those totals can also affect financing and insurance decisions.
The $1,999 headline only tells part of the story
Gurman said the overseas total is higher as Apple works to keep the US starting price below $2,000.
Apple confirms the $1,999 US price, while its regional pages list UK pricing, India pricing, and Japan pricing. All four markets receive a base configuration with 256GB of storage. Higher-capacity 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options push the total further upward.

The regional gap also matters for adoption. Gurman expects foldables to grow substantially, but high upfront prices and hardware compromises will slow the shift compared with the original smartphone transition. Apple may eventually benefit from lower component costs and broader payment programs, but it has not announced a cheaper Duo model.
