If you were holding out for a radically different Apple Watch this fall, you might want to adjust your expectations. According to tech reporter Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is not planning any major design changes for its upcoming smartwatch lineup. During a recent question-and-answer session, Gurman noted that the next generation of watches will look almost exactly like the models currently sitting on store shelves.
Fans have been waiting for a totally new design for years
For years, rumors have circulated about a massive overhaul for the device. Speculation pointed to a completely re-engineered watch with magnetic band attachments or a new circular face. None of those drastic updates ever made it to the production line. Instead, Apple has stuck to a familiar formula, preferring small, incremental tweaks over flashy hardware updates.
The last time the standard casing received a notable update was with the Series 10, which introduced a slightly thinner profile and new screen sizes. Since then, the brand has kept things highly consistent. Even the premium Ultra model has only seen minor visual updates since it first launched back in 2022.
If you really want to buy an Apple Watch that looks totally different from the current Series 11, you will likely need a lot of patience. Current industry chatter suggests that the company will not introduce a truly radical redesign until at least 2028. Until then, it seems perfectly happy giving its customers a familiar piece of glass and metal that simply works well.
