Someone compromised a specific version of this tool that developers ultimately included in the Mac software. This created a hidden vulnerability inside the code that could theoretically allow someone to send unauthorized network requests.
OpenAI quickly noticed the problem during a routine scan and replaced the compromised files before things got worse. The company stated it has not seen any signs of bad actors actually accessing user accounts or stealing sensitive information. It just wants to play it safe by pushing out fresh, secure versions of the affected software to everyone.

Getting the fix is very easy for anyone running the software. If you use the ChatGPT desktop app or the Codex programming tool on an Apple computer, simply open the application. A prompt should appear on your screen asking you to install the latest version right then and there.
