Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared how he hopes people will remember his time leading the company, saying his personal legacy matters less to him than whether others see him as a “good and decent man” after his years at Apple.
CBS News interviewed Cook during Apple’s opening of its Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston, Texas, where the outgoing CEO was asked what he believed his legacy would represent as he approaches his final weeks leading the company.

“In my view, your legacy is described by others, not yourself. And so, I hope that people will say that I was a good and decent man. And if they say that at the end of the day, I will feel like I have achieved something.”
Cook’s answer takes a personal direction compared with how he previously described Steve Jobs, whom he once summed up with a single word, “innovation,” while discussing the values Jobs represented at Apple.
As Cook prepares to leave the CEO role, his comments offer a simple view of how he wants people to judge his leadership, with character taking the central place in how he describes the legacy he hopes to leave behind.
