Apple has opened the next Apple TV update to more testers. After seeding tvOS 26.3 beta 1 to developers on Monday, December 15, 2025, Apple has now released the first public beta to anyone enrolled in its Beta Software Program.
This first test build carries build number 23K5585c, the same identifier used in the developer release.
Public betas can be less stable than regular releases, so install it only if you are comfortable with bugs, app glitches, or random reboots on your Apple TV.
How to update tvOS 26.3 public beta 1
- Enroll your Apple ID in Apple’s Beta Software Program.
- On Apple TV, open Settings.
- Go to System and select Software Updates.
- Turn on Get Public Beta Updates.
- Select Update Software and follow the prompts.
Once installed, you can confirm you are on tvOS 26.3 (23K5585c) inside Software Updates.
Changes in tvOS 26.3 so far
So far, this looks like a smaller point update that focuses on polish rather than big new additions. Early coverage of the 26.3 cycle points to a familiar mix of fixes and stability work in the first beta wave.
Here are the practical areas to watch after you install:
- System performance and stability: faster UI response, fewer hiccups when switching apps, and smoother playback handoffs.
- Streaming reliability: fewer buffering issues, fewer audio dropouts, and improved HDMI and AirPlay consistency.
- General bug fixes: small annoyances that do not always make release notes, but show up in day-to-day use.
If Apple adds visible features later in the beta cycle, they usually show up in follow-up builds rather than beta 1.
