There is now a dedicated Apple Music app inside ChatGPT, and you can use it to get music recommendations and build playlists using plain language. The integration lets you search songs, albums, artists, and playlists without leaving ChatGPT.
You can add Apple Music to ChatGPT from the Settings section on the Mac app, the web, or the iOS app. Under the Apps option, select Apple Music and sign in with your Apple Account to authorize access. Once connected, you can start using it right away.
According to OpenAI, all users can browse the Apple Music catalog, generate playlists, and listen to preview clips, even without an Apple Music subscription. This makes discovery available to everyone, not just paying users.
What this integration actually does
This does not turn ChatGPT into a full music player. You cannot stream full tracks inside ChatGPT. You can only listen to short previews when songs appear in responses.
Instead, the real value lies in discovery. If you have an Apple Music subscription, you can ask ChatGPT to create playlists, suggest albums, or find artists based on your mood, genre preferences, or specific prompts. ChatGPT then sends those results directly to Apple Music.
Earlier reports suggested ChatGPT could read your listening history. That is not true. Your Apple Music history and existing playlists stay private.
The app only has permission to add songs, albums, or playlists to your library. It does not have read access to your personal listening data.
How to use Apple Music inside ChatGPT
Follow these steps to get started:
- Go to chatgpt.com/apps or open the Apps section in ChatGPT
- Select Apple Music
- Sign in with your Apple Account to connect
After setup, you can start prompts with “@Apple Music” or choose Apple Music from the app selector. In some cases, ChatGPT will automatically use Apple Music based on your request, so you do not always need to select it manually.
Apple Music requires an active subscription to add content to your library. The service costs $10.99 per month and includes a one month free trial.
