Apple lists Dual Capture on the iPhone Duo tech specs page and product page but has not published a support guide for it, so the steps below follow Apple’s description and may differ slightly once iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27.1 on October 23. What Dual Capture records, and at what quality
Apple’s tech specs put Dual Capture at 4K 30, the only resolution and frame rate Apple lists for the mode. On their own, the rear cameras record 4K Dolby Vision from 24 up to 120 fps, Cinematic mode reaches 4K 60, Action mode reaches 2.8K 60 and slo-mo reaches 4K 120, so Dual Capture is the most constrained of the Duo’s video modes.

The Duo has two front cameras, which raises a question Apple has not answered. The outer display carries a 12MP Center Stage camera with 4K Dolby Vision at up to 60 fps, while the inner display has an under-display camera limited to 1080p at 30 or 60 fps. Apple has not said which of the two Dual Capture uses, or whether that depends on whether the phone is open. The 4K 30 ceiling fits within the outer camera’s range but exceeds the inner camera’s 1080p limit, which suggests the outer camera, but Apple has not confirmed it.

How to use Dual Capture on iPhone Duo
These steps follow Apple’s description of the feature. Apple has not published the exact control, so the step that selects the mode is a guide rather than a certainty.
- Open the Camera app with the Camera Control button or the Camera icon.
- Switch to Video and pick Dual Capture from the video options. Apple has not said whether it is a separate mode or a setting inside Video.
- Frame the rear shot with the 1x Fusion Main or the 0.5x Ultra Wide. Apple lists Center Stage on the rear camera as well, which keeps people framed as they move.
- Check your own framing. Apple has not said whether the front feed appears as a picture-in-picture window or a split view.
- Tap record or press Camera Control. The result is captured at 4K 30, per Apple’s tech specs.
- Stop recording and review in Photos. Apple has not said whether the two feeds are saved as one file or two.
If Dual Capture is missing or limited
- Confirm the phone is on iOS 27.1 or later, the version Apple says iPhone Duo ships with.
- Check that you are in Video, not Cinematic, Slo-mo or Time-lapse. Apple lists Dual Capture separately from those modes.
- Expect 4K 30 and nothing higher. Apple lists no 60 or 120 fps option for Dual Capture.
- If the front feed looks soft, it may be coming from the inner under-display camera, which Apple caps at 1080p. Apple has not said whether you can pick the camera.
- Watch storage. Apple sells the Duo from 256GB to 2TB; two 4K streams fill space faster than one.

Dual Capture is not among the four features Apple lists as Duo-exclusive, and Apple has not said whether other new iPhones offer it.
