Apple’s trade-in page, as read on September 10, lists estimated values of up to $175 for an iPhone 13, $255 for an iPhone 13 Pro, $320 for an iPhone 13 Pro Max, $195 for an iPhone 14, $285 for an iPhone 14 Pro and $360 for an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Against the iPhone 18 Pro’s $1,199 starting price, that leaves a net cost of between $839 and $1,024 depending on which phone you hand in.
Every one of those figures is lower than the values Apple was reported to offer after its August 6 refresh, by $20 to $50 per model. The September figures are from Apple’s Store page for the United States; the August figures are reported and were not captured from Apple directly. The iPhone 13 mini was reported at $155 in August, and its current Apple value was not captured. For an iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, add $100 to each net cost above.

How Apple’s trade-in values work
Apple’s page currently headlines a range of $35 to $885 for iPhone trade-ins, with the $885 belonging to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Every figure is an estimated upper bound: the credit you actually receive depends on the phone’s condition once Apple inspects it. Values are reported to be flat per model regardless of storage, so a 512GB iPhone 14 Pro is quoted at the same $285 as a 128GB one.
The values have been moving. Apple was reported to have raised several of them in August, and the September page now shows lower figures for every iPhone 13 and 14 model. Apple has not explained the change, and it has not said whether the figures will move again before the iPhone 18 Pro ships on September 18.
Why the carriers say up to $1,200
US carrier pages advertise up to $1,200 in trade-in credit toward an iPhone 18 Pro via AT&T, with similar offers from T-Mobile and Verizon, and reported wording ties the top figure to an iPhone 14 or newer. That is promotional credit spread across a carrier plan, not the flat value Apple credits at purchase, and Apple has not published per-device carrier values. If you own an iPhone 13, check the eligibility line carefully, because the reported carrier framing starts at the iPhone 14.
In Canada, Apple’s own newsroom states up to C$1,415 in credit with an iPhone 13 or newer toward the C$1,749 iPhone 18 Pro, so the country you buy in changes both the figure and the model floor. The iPhone 18 Pro price guide has the monthly option for buyers who pay Apple directly.
What an iPhone 13 or 14 owner actually gains
The trade-in figures are small because the phones are three and four years old, but the upgrade is correspondingly large. Apple’s tech specs for the two generations line up like this against the new phone.

The non-Pro iPhone 13 and 14 sit further back: 12MP main cameras, no telephoto, no ProMotion, a notch instead of a Dynamic Island, and 19 and 20 hours of video playback. The 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max are rated at 28 and 29 hours against the 18 Pro Max’s 45.
Software is the other half. Apple’s iOS 27 page lists compatibility from the iPhone 12 onward, so every iPhone 13 and 14 will get the September 14 update, but full Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max or iPhone 16 or later. The Siri AI beta and the on-device features stay out of reach on these phones no matter which version of iOS they run.
