The iPhone Duo is 5.2 mm thick when open and 11.3 mm when closed, weighs 254 g, and is built from a mirror-polished Grade 5 titanium frame with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back. It carries an IP68 rating to a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes, according to Apple’s press release and tech specs.
Those are the numbers behind Apple’s three-word pitch for the phone, “Foldable. Posable. And durable.” The iPhone 18 Pro kept the 17 Pro’s design this year, so the Duo is the only new iPhone shape of 2026, and the durability figures matter more than usual for a device that bends in the middle. Closed, the Duo is a short, wide phone at 84.1 by 117.8 mm, and it opens sideways into what Apple calls a wide, passport-like format. The 5.2 mm figure is the thickness of the open phone; the 11.3 mm closed figure is the two halves stacked plus the hinge.

Grade 5 titanium and a 3D-printed hinge cover
The frame is Grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish, and the enclosure uses 85 percent recycled titanium. The hinge cover is 3D-printed from 100 percent recycled titanium, and Apple says the hinge itself has more than 100 components with custom adhesives for flex relief.
Apple has not published a hinge cycle rating, so there is no official number for how many folds the mechanism is designed to survive. John Ternus, in his first press release quote as Apple CEO, called the Duo “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.”
Ceramic Shield 2, the inner cover and IP68

- Inner display cover: custom polymer with 40 percent higher stiffness than the industry standard over high-strength glass layers, plus a scratch-resistant coating and nano-texture finish

The inner cover is the one place Apple does not list Ceramic Shield. The folding panel instead gets a stiffened polymer over glass layers, with the nano-texture finish doing the work of minimizing the visible crease. Apple has not published a crease measurement.
What “posable” means
Apple’s product page says iOS responds to how the phone is posed, listing StandBy, landscape, portrait, seated and standing positions, so a half-open Duo works as its own stand. Two Apple accessories build on that: the iPhone Duo Case at $79 in sand or navy blue, and the iPhone Duo Folio with an integrated kickstand at $129 in navy blue or taupe.
