Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to become the most expensive iPhone the company has ever sold, with the latest rumors pointing to a starting price of around $2,000 in the US. The device, reportedly called the iPhone Duo, is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at Apple’s September 9 event.

Earlier estimates placed the foldable between $2,000 and $2,500, while some analysts predicted prices closer to $2,400. However, last-minute reporting now points toward $2,000 for the entry-level 256GB model, which lines up with our latest iPhone Duo rumor roundup.

Why the foldable iPhone will cost so much

Apple is reportedly building the device around several expensive components and a new form factor that requires more complex manufacturing than a regular iPhone.

Expected hardware includes:

  • A roughly 7.8-inch folding OLED display
  • A smaller 5.3 to 5.5-inch outer display
  • A20-series silicon and 12GB of RAM
  • A redesigned hinge focused on reducing the visible display crease
  • Two rear cameras
  • Side-mounted Touch ID instead of Face ID

The foldable is also expected to run iOS 27 with interfaces designed to take advantage of the larger inner screen, including side-by-side apps and wider layouts.

Apple’s wider fall lineup helps put that price into perspective. The iPhone 18 Pro is currently expected to start near $1,199, making the foldable roughly $800 more expensive before storage upgrades.

Apple has not announced the final name, price or specifications, so these figures remain rumors until the company confirms them. Our September iPhone event guide covers the wider lineup expected alongside Apple’s first foldable.
