Apple is hosting its big hardware showcase today, and many people are wondering if we will finally see a new Apple TV 4K. The popular streaming box has not received a hardware update in a while, so expectations are high for a fresh version. Fans want to know what features are coming and, more importantly, how much it will cost when it hits store shelves.
Rumors point to a higher price tag this year
There was early hope that the company might release a cheaper streaming box. Some analysts previously predicted a price drop to $99, which would help it compete against budget sticks from Roku and Amazon.
However, recent leaks suggest that is not happening. Because the new hardware is packed with premium components, reports indicate the starting price will likely stay at $199. Some rumors even point to a higher $249 price point for models with maximum storage and extra features. The device is targeting users who want premium performance, so it seems a budget version is off the table.

A fast new chip handles the heavy lifting
To justify that premium cost, the streaming box is getting a massive brain upgrade. Industry insiders believe the new model will feature an A19 processor.
This marks a huge jump from the older silicon. A faster chip ensures that navigating menus feels incredibly snappy. It also gives the device enough power to handle demanding games and intensive background tasks without slowing down.
More memory brings better voice control features
Alongside the faster processor, the device is expected to include between 8GB and 12GB of RAM. This extra memory is not just for keeping apps open in the background.
It is a necessary requirement for local AI processing. The upgrade will allow the hardware to run advanced Siri requests locally on the device. This means faster and more reliable voice control when you ask to search for a specific show or rewind a movie. You can expect to hear a lot about these features during the October 13 event livestream later today.
Fast wireless speeds keep your movies buffering smoothly
For those who rely on a wireless connection, the new box brings a welcome internet upgrade. Leaks indicate the inclusion of Wi-Fi 7 technology.
This modern wireless standard provides a stronger connection with less interference from other devices in your house. When you are streaming massive data files, a solid connection is critical. This upgrade ensures that 4K movies load quickly and play back without dropping frames. It is one of the more practical Apple TV 4K updates we expect to see.
High quality audio passthrough arrives for serious movie fans
Sound quality is a big deal for home theater enthusiasts, and the upcoming box seems ready to deliver. A much requested audio passthrough feature is reportedly in the works.
This allows the device to send uncompressed audio signals directly to your soundbar or home receiver. Along with better wireless audio synchronization, it means your speakers can output the highest quality sound possible. If you invest in good speakers, this single feature might be worth the upgrade price.
You can expect the new box to arrive soon
If you are planning to upgrade your living room setup, you will not have to wait very long. The company typically follows a predictable release schedule for its new hardware.
Reports suggest the new box will be announced today alongside other Apple hardware like the upcoming smart display. While preorders might start soon, the physical units are expected to begin shipping to customers around October 30. We will get the final details on what the new 2026 Apple TV brings as soon as the presentation wraps up.
The streaming market is crowded with cheap dongles, but this upcoming release proves there is still room for a high power living room computer. While the premium price tag might scare away casual buyers, the serious hardware upgrades make it a strong option for anyone who wants a top tier home theater experience.
