General Motors has confirmed plans to support Apple Wallet’s digital car key feature. You can expect this feature across GM’s major brands, including Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick. However, GM has not shared a timeline or named specific vehicle models yet.

The digital car key lets you lock, unlock, and start your vehicle using an iPhone or Apple Watch. The experience stays simple and familiar if you already use Apple Wallet for payments or passes. Once supported, you will not need a physical key for everyday driving.

How the Apple Wallet Car Key Works

Apple explained the expanded car key feature during its WWDC 2025 keynote.

With the latest version, the feature uses Ultra Wideband technology. You can keep your iPhone in your pocket as you walk up to the car and drive away. The system also includes Power Reserve support, which keeps the digital key working for up to five hours after your iPhone battery dies.

You can also share your car key with others. Apple lets you send access to up to 8 people using AirDrop or messaging apps like Messages and WhatsApp.

GM also announced a built-in Apple Music app for select 2025 and newer Chevrolet and Cadillac models. At the same time, GM confirmed it still plans to phase out CarPlay.
