Apple Smart Glasses May Use Hand Gestures for Control

Recent leaks indicate that Apple is actively developing new smart glasses that let users control the device using simple hand movements. Instead of building a heavy screen or adding physical buttons, the company plans to use a dedicated camera to read physical gestures in the air.

This upcoming wearable product aims to act as a lightweight artificial intelligence companion that easily connects with your smartphone to capture photos and answer daily questions.

The device relies on two cameras instead of a display

According to the latest insider information, the first version of these glasses will completely skip having a display. The manufacturer decided against using screens or heavy 3D sensors because those parts drain the battery too fast and make the frame bulky. Instead, the team is building the frames out of a light, plant-based plastic called acetate to keep the design comfortable for all-day wear.

To make up for the missing screen, the hardware depends on a dual-camera system. One high-resolution lens will handle taking regular photos and videos that you can share with friends. A second, lower-resolution wide-angle camera is designed specifically to track your hand gestures and send visual details straight to Siri.

This setup gives the AI assistant enough context to understand what you are looking at and respond to.

The brand adapts navigation tools from its older spatial headset

Using hand movements to navigate without a touch screen is not a totally new idea for the tech giant. The company previously built a very similar control system for the Vision Pro, which lets users pinch and swipe in mid-air to open apps or select items. Now, it wants to shrink that same interaction method down to fit into a normal-looking pair of glasses.

These upcoming glasses will rely heavily on a much smarter version of Siri expected to launch with iOS 27. Because the wearable lacks a screen to tap, voice commands and hand signals will be the only ways to get things done.

While the exact release date remains unconfirmed, most analysts expect the company to reveal the glasses sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.
