iOS 27 Finally Adds an Upload Progress Bar to Messages

Apple is making file sharing in Messages more transparent with a new upload progress bar in iOS 27. Announced at WWDC26, the feature lets users see exactly how a photo, video, or file upload is progressing before it is sent.

Until now, Messages often provided little feedback when uploading large files. Users could be left wondering whether a photo or video was still sending, especially on slower connections.

With iOS 27, Apple introduces a visible upload bar that shows transfer progress in real time. The indicator appears directly within the conversation, making it easier to track outgoing content.

Better Visibility for Large Files

The new upload bar is particularly useful when sharing:

  • High-resolution photos
  • Long videos
  • Documents and PDFs
  • Multiple attachments at once

Users can quickly see whether a file is still uploading or nearly finished.

Part of Apple’s Messages Improvements

Apple continues to refine the Messages experience with practical quality-of-life updates. While the upload bar may seem like a small addition, it removes uncertainty during file sharing and gives users clearer feedback.

For anyone who regularly sends photos and videos through Messages, this WWDC26 update should make conversations feel smoother and more reliable.
