Siri AI arrived on September 14 in beta, and it speaks one language. Apple’s own announcement says support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is coming next month, which puts the next five somewhere in October. No date, and no version number.
If your iPhone is set to any other language, that is the whole picture for now: the new assistant is English, and the old one is still there.
One language for Siri AI, 16 for Apple Intelligence
The gap is easy to miss because Apple Intelligence as a whole is far broader. Apple lists 16 supported languages for it: Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Siri AI is the exception inside that list, not the rule. Writing Tools, notification summaries and the rest of the Apple Intelligence set follow the 16-language list. The new Siri does not. On Apple’s iOS and iPadOS feature availability page, Siri AI, Expressive Voices, Write with Siri, Visual Intelligence and Siri Mode in Camera appear without the per-language breakdown that other Apple Intelligence features on the same page carry. Apple does not say why.
What “next month” pins down, and what it does not
It pins down the order. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are the next five, ahead of the ten other languages Apple Intelligence already supports. German, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese and both written forms of Chinese are not in that group, and Apple has given them no timeframe.
It does not pin down a build. Apple has not attached the five languages to iOS 27.2 or to any other update, and the iOS 27.2 beta release notes do not mention Siri languages at all. Anyone telling you the languages ship with a specific version is guessing.
Keep the word beta in mind too. Apple applies it to Siri AI itself, in English, on release day.
Two places Siri AI is not available in any language
Language is only one of the gates. Apple states that Siri AI will not be available initially in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, and that features relying on Siri AI are also unavailable there. Apple says it is working to find a path forward that preserves its users’ privacy and security.
China is the other. Apple says Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features will not be available there while it works through regulatory requirements. Neither statement carries a date.
So an owner in Paris or Shanghai with an English iPhone still does not get the new Siri, and an owner in Tokyo or Madrid is waiting on language support rather than on regulation. Those are two different queues.
What to do while you wait
Very little needs doing, which is the useful part. Siri Classic continues to work in the languages it always did, and switching your iPhone’s language to English purely to reach Siri AI trades a working assistant for an English-only one and changes every menu on the device. The rest of Apple Intelligence keeps running in all 16 languages, so summaries and writing tools in Spanish or Japanese are unaffected by the Siri limit.
It is also worth checking which side of the line a given feature sits on. Anything Apple bills as part of the new assistant, including Write with Siri and Siri Mode in Camera, follows Siri AI’s language schedule. Anything Apple bills as an Apple Intelligence feature follows the 16-language list. When a feature stops working after you change your iPhone’s language, that distinction is usually the reason.
The date to watch is simply October. When Apple adds the five, it will be an update to the assistant rather than a setting you flip, and there is nothing to enable in advance. Until then, the honest summary of Siri AI’s reach is one language, in beta, outside the EU and mainland China.
