Leighton leaves Jason’s world because Jason orders him to go and never return. Leighton says he arrived while searching for Jason2, not to attack the Dessen family. He apologizes for the damage surrounding the Box, accepts that this is the wrong door and withdraws rather than force another confrontation.
The departure is a rare moment of restraint from a character whose multiverse project has repeatedly crossed moral boundaries. It does not mean Leighton has abandoned the Box. It means he recognizes that Jason’s low-technology refuge is not his destination and that remaining would create another threat to a family already hiding.

Leighton is searching for Jason2
Leighton’s route explains Jason’s immediate suspicion. He comes from a plague-struck reality, briefly reaches Jason1’s original world and finds government agents controlling the Box area. He then follows the corridor to the world where Jason, Daniela and Charlie have tried to build a quieter life.
When Jason confronts him, Leighton explains that Jason2 is the person he wants. Jason2 created the travel system that transformed Leighton’s ambitions and helped unleash consequences neither man controlled. The search is therefore tied to accountability, unfinished business and Leighton’s continuing vision for alternate worlds.
Jason rejects the apology and the risk
Jason has no reason to gamble on that explanation. A different Jason has already appeared near the family, the Box has returned after an attempted destruction and Daniela feels constantly watched. Even a sincere apology cannot make another traveler safe simply because he promises peaceful intentions.
Leighton’s decision to obey matters because he could have argued, followed Jason home or tried to recruit him. Instead, he acknowledges the harm and removes himself. The choice gives Jason temporary control over the encounter, even though Jason cannot control which door another traveler may open later.
Leaving does not end Leighton’s mission
Nothing in Episode 4 confirms where Leighton goes next. His search for Jason2 remains active, and the wider season still links him to the idea of building a perfect world. Viewers should not treat his exit as a death, surrender or final disappearance.
