Sifu gets a proper mobile rework

Sifu is the headliner for anyone who likes a challenge. Apple describes it as a stylish third-person brawler that follows a young kung fu student on a relentless path of revenge.

The fights are built to punish sloppy play. Enemies attack at the same time, so you have to parry strikes, chain combos and use whatever is lying around as a weapon.

This is not a straight port. Apple says Sifu arrives fully adapted for iPhone and iPad, with custom-tuned touch controls, a reworked camera system and full controller support.

Vampire Crawlers swaps bullets for cards

Vampire Crawlers comes from poncle, the studio behind Vampire Survivors, and Nosebleed Interactive. Apple calls it a spin-off of the smash hit that trades dodging bullets for tactical deck building.

You fight skeletons, bats and other creeps in a gothic card battler with a streak of dark humor. Each run is a chaotic dungeon crawl where you discover card combos, uncover secret relics and try to manage the luck of the draw.

It is pitched at players who want short bursts of strategy, which makes it a good fit for a phone.

No Man’s Sky lands on October 28

No Man’s Sky from Hello Games is the one title you cannot play yet. It makes its mobile debut on iPhone and iPad on October 28, with every major content expansion to date, including the recent Cosmos update. We covered the details when No Man’s Sky was confirmed for iPhone and iPad.

Four more games to try now

The rest of the lineup covers a wide spread of genres:

  • Little Kitty, Big City lets you guide a curious cat through an open-world city. It comes from Double Dagger Studio.
  • 9 Kings is a strategic kingdom builder where you assemble card armies to take on royal rivals. It comes from Sad Socket and Playdigious.
  • Dome Keeper is an alien mining simulator where you dig deep and fend off attackers. It comes from Bippinbits and Raw Fury.
  • Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall asks you to make agonizing moral choices to save a crumbling empire. It comes from Brave At Night and Noodlecake Studios.

Apple says all four will be featured throughout Indie Games Week.

What Apple says about indie games

Carson Oliver, Apple’s head of App Store Worldwide, framed the event as a nod to studios that take creative risks.

“Indie games are constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity to deliver unique gameplay experiences to Apple users, and we wanted to take a moment to celebrate these games and the teams that take creative risks to push gaming forward,” Oliver said.

He added that “the App Store gives bold ideas a global stage,” whether a game comes from a solo developer or a growing studio.

Where to find them

All seven games appear in the App Store’s Indie Games Week features on iPhone and iPad. Apple also points to an App Store editors’ overview of indie games, and a separate indie games guide for players who want to browse standout indie titles on Mac.
