Recent reports show that Apple is gearing up to change its smart home platform in a big way. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the company is building broader software to improve how connected accessories work together. This move aims to make HomeKit a much stronger option in the smart home market by introducing support for completely new types of products.
The platform adds support for new connected hardware categories
To make this happen, the company is partnering with outside manufacturers. Together, the teams are designing fresh devices built specifically for a smart home system powered by the new Siri AI. This means users will soon see new groups of accessories that previously could not connect directly to the network.
Alongside the underlying software improvements, a new wave of hardware is right around the corner. Gurman notes that an updated Apple TV and a refreshed HomePod mini are on the way. These gadgets will act as central control points for the upgraded ecosystem.
