Movie fans can finally get a peek at the next big original film heading to Apple. The company just released the first official trailer for Being Heumann, a historical drama directed by Siân Heder. The filmmaker previously brought home a top-tier Oscar win for CODA back in 2022, and this new project aims to deliver another powerful story when it arrives on streaming screens later this fall.
The film follows a massive federal building takeover in 1977
The upcoming movie stars Ruth Madeley as Judy Heumann, a young disabled woman who decides she has had enough of being ignored by the government. When officials refuse to take her phone calls, she and a group of outsiders decide to take over their building instead. The story covers what turned into the longest occupation of a federal office in American history. The protesters refuse to leave until a stubborn bureaucrat, played by Mark Ruffalo, takes real action to change the lives of millions.
The studio clearly hopes this inspiring true story will be a strong contender during the next awards season. It aims for its own long-term success to match what CODA achieved a few years ago. Being Heumann will open in a few select theaters on November 6, giving audiences a chance to see it on the big screen first. After that limited run, the historical drama will be available for everyone to watch globally on Apple TV starting November 13.
