The horror-comedy show Widows Bay grabbed eight separate awards during the first two nights of the event. Betty Gilpin won a guest acting prize for her role, while the production crew picked up wins for cinematography, sound, music, casting, and production design. This strong showing helped the platform pull ahead of big rivals like HBO and Netflix before the main broadcast even begins.
Alongside the massive success of its hit comedy, the streaming platform also found success with Pluribus. The new drama series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan managed to secure four Emmys of its own. It picked up technical awards for editing, sound mixing, and production design.

Palm Royale and other shows add to the massive weekend haul
Apple also picked up three trophies each for Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Palm Royale. Both shows built up a loyal following and proved they could stand alongside the bigger hits on the platform. Adding to the massive weekend, the documentary series Mr. Scorsese won Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series. The company even won a single award for a commercial, bringing its total to twenty weekend wins.
With such a strong start in the Creative Arts categories, industry watchers believe these shows will make a major impact when the top prizes are handed out at the Primetime Emmy Awards on September 14. Winning so many awards gives their original shows a badge of quality that draws in more subscribers.
