Jason’s growing obsession with the Box is the clearest reason to worry that he could repeat the damage associated with Jason2. That does not mean the show has confirmed that he will become his double. It means the new season is deliberately placing Jason near the same temptation: using the Box as an answer to fear, loss and the need to control an impossible situation.
Episode 5 can therefore push Jason toward Jason2’s path without making the two characters identical. The central question is whether Jason uses the technology to protect the people he loves or begins treating their safety as something he alone can engineer. Apple’s Season 2 setup explicitly says that his obsession with the Box deepens as Daniela’s paranoia threatens their fragile stability.

The Box has always turned certainty into a trap
Season 1 established the Box as more than a piece of science-fiction hardware. It gives its users access to alternate realities, but it also makes every decision carry a frightening new consequence. Jason2’s earlier choices made clear how easily the wish for another life can become a justification for taking someone else’s.
That history is why Jason’s current interest cannot be treated as harmless curiosity. He has direct knowledge of what the Box can do to a family and to a person’s sense of identity. If he starts believing that another trip can fix every risk, the line between responsibility and control will get thinner with every choice.
Jason is not Jason2, but the pattern is visible
The theory works because it preserves that distinction. Jason2 used the Box to seize a life he desired. Jason’s motivation is framed around protecting the stability he fought to regain. Those motives are different, yet both can produce isolation, secrecy and an insistence that other people must accept one man’s calculation.
Daniela’s growing paranoia makes that contrast even more consequential. A choice Jason considers protective may look, from her side, like proof that the promise of a quiet life has already disappeared. The show can generate suspense without asking viewers to assume Jason has become a villain.
Episode 5 should test the cost of going back in
Apple has confirmed a 10-episode weekly season, which makes Episode 5 a natural point to complicate the initial premise rather than resolve it. The most defensible prediction is not that Jason will make the exact same choice as Jason2. It is that his belief in the Box as a solution will force him to decide whose consent and safety matter when a new route appears.
