The peaceful world is now under quarantine
Amanda and Ryan believe they are returning to the advanced reality where they had previously found refuge. The Box appears where expected and the surroundings look familiar. That apparent success matters because Amanda has just proved she can navigate without depending entirely on Jason2.
Their confidence collapses when officers in protective equipment surround them. The authorities know they are Amanda Lucas and Ryan Holder, which suggests the pair have official identities or records in this world. The problem is not simply two unknown travelers appearing after curfew.
Their clean scans make them more suspicious
An officer scans both travelers and finds them clear. In an ordinary health check, that result would end the encounter. Here, it increases the alarm. The response implies that uninfected people should not be outside, should not exist in that place or do not match what the authorities know about their local counterparts.
That ambiguity keeps the episode from giving a simple answer. Amanda and Ryan may have returned to the correct reality at the wrong time, or they may have opened a door onto a near-identical branch with a different outbreak. The Box makes visual familiarity unreliable evidence.
The arrest creates a threat beyond the Box
The detention also leaves Jason2 outside as a potential rescuer.
