Outer Banks Season 5 gives the Pogues a final victory after years of treasure hunts, losses and betrayals. John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo survive the last adventure, recover the Royal Merchant gold and use it to rebuild their lives and the island community that shaped them.
Netflix’s official ending explainer confirms where the principal characters finish the fifth and final season. JJ does not return to life, but the friends honor him through the choices they make after the hurricane and the recovery of the gold.

John B and Sarah become parents to a baby girl, whom they name JJ in memory of their friend. They rebuild the Chateau and later hold an official wedding celebration there, surrounded by people from across their years on Kildare Island.
Kiara defeats Groff during the hurricane and finally moves toward the future she wanted. She buys back the Maybank property, begins caring for the land and becomes a marine-biology intern with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries. A memorial bench on the beach keeps JJ’s place in the group visible.
Pope travels to the Bahamas and proposes to Cleo again. She accepts, and they return to the United States, where Cleo is shown with a naturalization certificate. The pair settle at Tannyhill, returning the property to Pope’s family line and giving them a stable home after years of danger.
What happens to Rafe and the treasure?
Rafe breaks Sofia out of jail and leaves the Outer Banks with her by boat. Before departing, he reaches a limited peace with Sarah and the Pogues. He cannot attend John B and Sarah’s wedding in person, but he joins the celebration through FaceTime during the credits.
The Royal Merchant gold sinks during the hurricane, but the Pogues locate it after the storm. Netflix’s explainer places its story value at $400 million. They use the wealth to buy back land, repair homes and businesses and help rebuild the community rather than leaving the island behind.
JJ appears only through earlier memories, and the Blue Crown does not resurrect him. That makes the ending about living with the loss rather than undoing it.
