Apple just picked up a small music software company called Samplab. This move seems aimed at making Logic Pro even better for music producers. Samplab built some really interesting artificial intelligence tools that let people edit individual notes inside a recorded audio file. Now that Apple owns the technology, we will likely see these features built directly into its own creative software lineup soon.

Apple wants to improve audio splitting and chord editing features

Samplab launched in Zurich back in 2020. The startup focused on creating plugins for digital audio workstations. Its main selling point was the ability to separate different parts of a song, like isolating vocals or drums from a mixed track. It also let users detect and change specific notes within a recorded chord.

Since 2024, Logic Pro has offered its own stem-splitting tools. By bringing Samplab on board, Apple can push those capabilities much further. The tech giant quietly bought the audio startup Huxe earlier this year, adding to its growing list of small acquisitions.

The startup shuts down its website and social media presence

The transition is already underway. According to European Union public records, Apple used an unnamed subsidiary to secure the deal in June. Shortly after that, Samplab posted a notice saying it was closing shop and refunding its current subscribers.

If you try to visit the old Samplab website today, it simply redirects you to the main Apple homepage. Other links to its old plugins lead straight to error pages. The startup also cleared out its Twitter profile and removed all videos from its YouTube channel. This quiet cleanup shows Apple is fully absorbing the AI team and its assets to power the next generation of music production tools.
