The team at Apple is growing its manufacturing roots deep in the United States. A glass plant in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, operated by its longtime partner Corning, is preparing to add 200 permanent hourly production roles as it ramps up operations. The tech giant wants the glass for every future phone and watch to come directly from this location, marking a massive expansion of its domestic supply chain.
Innovation center creates hundreds of local manufacturing roles
The facility currently employs 350 people. By bringing in 200 permanent workers and a few new salaried positions in glass development, the plant is nearing a doubling of its workforce. The tech company is also planning to build a joint innovation center at the site. This new building project will bring an additional 100 temporary construction jobs to the area.
Company officials, including COO Sabih Khan and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, recently toured the site to check on progress. The tour comes a year after the brand put a massive $2.5 billion investment into the Kentucky facility. Khan noted that it wants to produce more technology right inside the United States, pointing to American manufacturing talent.
